Q: What instrumental instruction am I entitled to?
A: Currently all pupils in P5, P6 & P7 are entitled to one instrumental lesson a week under the Scottish Government Funded YMI scheme. This scheme was set up to give each child one year of free instrumental instruction by the end of P6.
Q: What do you mean by informal and formal sectors?
A: Basically the informal sector is made up of the voluntary, or independent, groups who provide instruction, or run ensembles. The formal sector includes The Comhairle.
Q: What funding is available for youth music groups?
A: There are a large number of sources of funding. Scottish Arts Council is a good place to start. Other bodies include The National Lottery. A search on the internet may highlight bodies which provide funding for groups which specialize in certain types of music making. This is an area where members can be extremely supportive of one another. When a body finds a good funding source share it with colleague members via the discussion forum.

Q: I have been told I need a SCRO check. What is that?
A: A wealth of information is available for individuals and organisations from http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/index.htm or by writing to Disclosure Scotland

A: If your daughter, or son, takes their instrument to school on a regular basis they are entitled to use the pupil purchase scheme. Your school can advise on this. If they show real promise http://www.a-y-m.org.uk/ may help.
Q: Can I access Individual Learning Accounts?
A: A visit to http://www.ilascotland.org.uk/ILA+Homepage.htm will provide all the information you require.
